Rise early and embark on a full-day historical tour covering only the top sights. Home to the towering Sagano Bamboo Forest, Arashiyama is a touristy mountainous district with highly picturesque spots. Dotted with holy temples and grand palaces, Arashiyama has painstakingly preserved the city’s historical charm. Next stop is the three-storey Kinkaku-ji temple that’s famed for its golden pavilion and scenic strolling garden. Clad in about 48 kg of gold (for first two floors), this site exudes pure grandeur. Soak in the tranquility of the temple grounds and see the deers sauntering freely around (they are, after all, being regarded as messengers in the religion) at Nara Park.
