Perhaps as whimsical and enchanting as Alice’s Wonderland, Aowanda National Forest will surround you with fireflies, maple leaves, and colourful birds.
Don’t bother fumbling with your GPS, this tour takes you straight from your hotel (Nantou, Tenai Township) to the Aowanda National Forest. Housing over 120 unique bird species and rich biodiversity, try to spot Taiwan’s national bird, the Formosan blue magpie. These “long-tailed mountain ladies” are not the only thing to keep an eye out for: When the right season dawns, you will notice maple leaves dotting the forest, alongside dancing fireflies that add to the forest’s magical vibe. Spanning over 3,000ha, there is a lot to see here in Aowanda and if you’re game enough, make your way across the suspension bridge--a stunning vantage point for admiring the mountain tops. Be warned: It’s not for the faint hearted!
