From RM 390.00
Start off from Christchurch and head along the vast farmlands of the Canterbury Plains towards the picturesque Lake Tekapo. The distinct milky turquoise-colour of the lake stems from the fine rock-flour suspended in the water. On the shores of the lake, spot the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd, where the altar window frames an impeccable view of the Southern Alps in the background. The church was built in 1935 for the pioneer families of the Mackenzie district and is still used as a place of worship today.
Next, continue on to the site of New Zealand’s tallest mountain - Aoraki, more commonly known as Mount Cook. Aoraki means “cloud piercer” in Māori, a befitting moniker, seeing as it stands 3,724m high. For the full experience, opt for a delectable lunch at the renowned Hermitage Hotel in Mount Cook Village (optional, charged separately).
After satisfying those hunger pangs, take some time to explore the sights and sounds of the local village and pristine views that surround it. If you are willing to splurge on a once-in-a-lifetime view, sign up for a scenic ski plane flight or helicopter ride to soak in the stunning views of the mountain summits and giant glaciers.
Subsequently, the tour will head south as you travel past Lake Pukaki and through Mackenzie County. Enjoy afternoon tea (own expense) in the charming village of Omarama and if there is extra time, visit the Jones Family Orchard near Cromwell. Your tour will end in Queenstown, also known as the adventure capital of the world.
