In the morning between 05:00am to 05:45am, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the meeting point. Your tour starts from here. Travel out of Yangon to “Kinmon Base Camp” at the foot of Mount Kyaiktiyo (3.5-hour drive). Along the way, stop by the Htaukkyant War memorial cemetery, a cemetery for Allied soldiers of the British Commonwealth who died in the battle in Burma (Myanmar) during the Second World War. Please note, that this is just a quick stop on the way. The cemetery cannot be visited. We will stop for breakfast at 39 miles (Phayar Gyi Junction).

Arrive at Kinpun Base Camp in the late morning and transfer to a local truck to drive to the terminal near the Golden Rock Pagoda (1–hour drive uphill). All tourists must take local trucks to travel up and down the mountain. The truck ride goes up a winding hill. These local trucks operate from 6am to 5pm.  The local truck will stop at the top of the mountain just 5 minutes walking distance from the Golden Rock Pagoda. You can also reach the Golden Rock Pagoda by cable car. The cable car gate is situated halfway to the mountain. If you wish to reach the Golden Rock by cable car, both truck and cable car fares must be paid.

On the top of the hill, you have plenty of time to not only admire the magnificent view of the mountain landscape but especially the legendary Golden Rock, which your guide will provide more information about. Your tour guide will show you around the Golden Rock Pagoda and surrounding area including local shops, monastery and other places of interest. The Pagoda was built more than 2,500 years ago and legend has it that it was built on a Hair Relic of the Lord Buddha. It can also be qualified as one of the wonders of the world by virtue of the fact that it sits uniquely at the apex of a huge, almost granite shaped boulder, which balances on the mountain. It has not fallen off the peak even through earthquakes. Local legend believes this is due to the power of the Hair Relic of Lord Buddha.

After spending around 1.5 to 2 hours at the Golden Rock, you have late lunch at a restaurant on top of the mountain. In the afternoon, we head back to Yangon. There will be another stop at 39 miles (Phayar Gyi Junction) for refreshments. Upon arrival in Yangon, you get dropped off at your hotel.

Insider tips
 

• When entering pagodas, guests are not allowed to wear any footwear so you will have to remove footwear at the entrance
• As you will be visiting pagodas, it is recommended to wear non-revealing clothing such as long pants/skirts and t-shirts/shirts that are not sleeveless
• Bring a hat or cap for sunny days and an umbrella for rainy days
