The shape of Shwezigon Pagoda went on to become the prototype for many other stupas across Myanmar. Next, visit the Htilominlo Temple, a majestic 3-storey tall temple built in the 11th Century consisting of intricately carved stuccos depicthing mythological animals. Before lunch, make a quick stop at the Khaymingha group of Temples where you can see a cluster of unique pagodas including a leaning temple.

Afterwards, travel to the Ananda Pagoda, Bagan’s best known and most beautiful temple consisting of beautiful glazed plaques. It was one of the first great temples of Bagan and is still well preserved. The temple’s most distinctive feature is the gilded Sikhara, a tower like sphire at the top. A short walk away is the Ananda Oak Kyaung Monastery, this is a brick monastery containing 18th Century paintings depictings the Buddha’s life and elements of the history in Bagan.

After lunch (own expense, head to the Pyramid-shaped Dhammayangi Temple, the largest and most massive of the Bagan Temples consisting of a massive square base topped by six receding terraces. It is infamous for it’s mysterious, bricked up passageways and note-worthy history. You can also visit the Thatbyinnu Temple, a majestic pagoda of 60 meters towering over the plains of Bagan.

Our next stop is at the Myinkaba Village famous for Bagan’s traditional family-owned lacquer-ware workshops.
